Cultivating Attendance was created with the purpose of revitalizing the bond between students and school through outdoor learning and a meaningful connection with nature. Its spirit is summarized in the conviction that:
“Where there is nature, there is wonder. Where there is wonder, there is learning.”
The initiative seeks to have children and youth with chronic absenteeism reconnect with their educational process through experience, curiosity, and wonder, recognizing the natural environment as a space for well-being and learning.
The project begins with an opening ritual, in which students and teachers participate in a day out at a park with native flora. During the experience, they visit different stations designed to foster exploration, contemplation, and a bond with the surrounding natural environment.
At the end of the day, each participant receives a pedagogical activity journal to be carried out outdoors over the following three months. These activities integrate the curriculum with the strengthening of socio-emotional skills, promoting meaningful learning and a commitment to school attendance.
Upon completing this process, a closing gathering is held to recognize nature as a key space for personal and educational growth. In this instance, students who have completed their journal are specially highlighted, valuing their effort, consistency, and reconnection with their educational journey.
