The Native Learning Garden program fosters the holistic development of children through connection with local nature and the strengthening of socio-emotional skills. Its approach is rooted in the idea that when childhood meets nature, curiosity, calm and the capacity to learn grow.
The main objective of the program is to diversify socio-emotional skills through deep learning and interaction with native flora. Through meaningful experiences in the natural environment, skills such as empathy, curiosity, emotional regulation, creative conflict resolution, growth mindset and autonomy are promoted.
These skills are integrated into the daily, school and family life of participants, and the program also includes teacher and caregiver training, providing them with tools to support and enhance these learnings.
The methodology includes participatory milestones such as the community co-design of the garden, collective planting and the implementation of pedagogical activities in the natural space, processes that strengthen community cohesion and sense of belonging. In doing so, the project not only contributes to improving mental health and academic outcomes, but also inspires greater respect, appreciation and care for nature.
